Criticism is not a motivator.

When a child is disregulated - is the time parents need to be regulated.

The quickest way to change your child’s behaviour is to first change your own.

It's more effective to reward your child for being "good" (appropriate) than to punish him for being "bad" (inappropriate).

Some hope their children will be like sponges soaking up the truth and wisdom imparted by their parents. However appealing this philosophy might be, it seldom seems to catch on with their children.

If you (parents) tend to overreact to your child's misbehaviour - your child learns that he can't trust you. Mom, Dad, stay regulated!

Brain Fact # 3

 

 

The human brain consists of several main parts, including the brain stem, the cerebellum. the cerebrum. Structurally, the brain stem is at the bottom of the brain and becomes the spinal cord. The cerebellum rests just above the brain stem with the cerebrum  taking the upper most part. The brain stem relays information from the body to the rest of the brain and is involved in the control of many basic functions (such as cardiovascular, respiratory and pain functions). The cerebellum, among other things, plays a major role in motor control. The cerebrum  (limbic system)contains several structures (including the amygdala, the hippocampus and the hypothalamus) that collaborate to process emotions, regulate memories, produce hormones and manage sexual arousal and circadian rhythms. Specifically, the hippocampus plays a major role in memory, while the amygdala plays a major role in emotion. The cerebrum is divided into 2 halves called hemispheres and controls a variety of higher mental functions such as perceptual processing, attention, and decision making. The hemispheres are connected by the corpus callosum which allow for the left hemisphere to communicate with the right

 

 

 

 

CLASSROOM & HOMEWORK TIPS  for SPECIAL LEARNERS

Many teachers pay too little attention to teaching “structure” to their classes at the beginning of the school year. Many teachers assume the children should already know what is expected of them or that they will just automatically pick it up by osmosis. Neglecting actually teaching “structure” results in wasting classroom time dealing with children testing the limits to see how far they can go.
